Sony’s first smartphone without Ericsson, it is Sony Xperia Ion. It is also the first Sony’s smartphone running on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. Along with its 4G LTE support, the phone is also equipped with superb features. The phone has been announced recently and is expected to release on Quartal 2, 2012.

Sony Xperia Ion comes with candybar and full touch screen design. It appears to be very slim and light measuring 133 x 68 x 10.8 mm and weighing 144 grams. Located on the front is 4.55 inches capacitive touch screen in 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The screen comes with 16M colors and ~323 ppi pixel density. Furthermore, it is powered by scratch-resistant glass protection and Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine as well Timescape UI for its interface.
To be able to run applications, Xperia Ion is supported by Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread) and Dual-core 1.5 GHz processor with Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset and 1 GB RAM. For connectivity, it runs on GSM network with AT&T’s 4G LTE support. It also provides high speed data connectivity via HSDPA up to 21.1 Mbps or HSUPA up to 5.8 Mbps, as well as 4G LTE Cat3, 50 data network. Along with its LTE supports, internet browsing will surely become a fascinating experience with HTML5 and Adobe Flash support. Other connectivity offered includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, DLNA, HDMI, NFC and microUSB connection. There is also a powerful GPS navigation system not only with A-GPS but also GLONASS supports.
Its superb features hasn’t stop yet as Sony Xperia Ion comes with superb multimedia feature as well. For camera, Xperia Ion is equipped by two cameras; a 1.3 megapixels front camera and a 12 megapixels main camera with autofocus and LED flash located on the back side. Both cameras can capture image as well as record video. Main camera is capable of capture images up to 4.000x3.000 pixels resolution. Some of main camera features include Geo-tagging, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama, image stabilization and touch focus. Main camera also features continuous autofocus, video stabilizer and video light to record HD video in 1080p resolution. Front camera can also record video but limited on 720p resolution. For storage, the phone has 16 GB internal memory and additional external memory via microSD card up to 32 GB. Xperia Ion is also equipped with Stereo FM radio with RDS and media player for playing music and video. Music player comes with TrackID music recognition and supports music of MP3/eAAC+/WMA/WAV formats. Meanwhile, video player can play video of MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV formats.
Messaging features available in Sony Xperia Ion are SMS (threaded view), MMS, Instant Messaging, Email, and Push Email. Other features include pre-loaded Google service applications, SNS integration, ANT+ support, Document viewer, Voice memo/dial/commands, Java MIDP emulator, multitouch up to 4 fingers, and Accelerometer. To support all its superb features, Sony Xperia Ion uses standard battery Li-Ion 1900 mAh. The battery life is rated up to 4 hours (3G) of talk time or up to 350 hours (3G) of standby time.
