ZTE Z221, an Entry Level Phone to AT&T

Targeting an entry level phone market, AT&T in collaboration with ZTE released its basic phone namely ZTE Z221. It is specially design for carrying only basic features and for those who want a simple way to communicate without being bothered of complicated features. To get all information about the phone, here is the detail specification of the Z221 by ZTE.

ZTE Z221 appears as a clamshell phone measuring 96 x 49 x 19 mm and weighing 92 grams. On the front side, there is 1 inch monochrome external display with 96 x 96 pixels resolution. The external display shows signal strength, battery life, date, time and caller ID. Right above the external display is a 0.3 megapixels camera with no autofocus. On the left side, there are volume control keys and charging or headset port. Speakerphone is located on the back bottom side. Flip open the clamshell to reveal its internal display that features 2 inches TFT screen with 240 x 320 pixels resolution. Below the internal display are navigation array and alphanumerical keypad. The navigation array consists of two soft keys, a Send key, an End or Power key, a square 4-way navigation pad with central OK key as well as a Task key, a Camera key and a Clear key.

ZTE Z221 is a world GSM phone as it runs on quad band GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz network. For the data connectivity, it is supported by EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps data network. You can experience internet surfing using NetFront 3.5 web browser that supports WAP 2.0. ZTE Z221 also comes with other connectivity such as Bluetooth ver2.0 with EDR and microUSB connection. Furthermore, it has GPS navigation system with A-GPS supports.

ZTE Z221 is also equipped by 0.3 megapixels camera without autofocus or flash. It manages to capture images up to 640 x 480 pixels resolution in average quality. It can also be functioned as a camcorder but it limited on QCIF (176 x 144 pixels) resolution. Although it is not a smartphone, ZTE Z221 comes with 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM, leaving only 20 MB for user. For multimedia features, there is a music player that manages to play music in MP3/AAC+/MPEG4/H.263/H.264 formats.

Messaging features of ZTE Z221 include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), Instant Messaging (IM) and Email. Instant messaging service comes with Yahoo!, AOL, and Windows Live support. Meanwhile, email service manages to come with POP or IMAP accounts. Its Organizer features include calendar, world clock, alarm, calculator, tip calculator, unit converter, and stopwatch.

For notification types, ZTE Z221 offers Music ringtone, Polyphonic ringtones, Vibration mode, Silent mode, and Speakerphone. Other features include Voice recording, Voice memo, Games with Java MIDP 2.0 support, and 500 entries of Phonebook. Last but not least, ZTE Z221 is powered by standard battery Li-Ion 900 mAh. The battery life is rated up to 3 hours of talk time or up to 8.3 days (200 hours) of standby time.
