Huawei Mercury, a Gingerbread Smartphone by Huawei

Coming into Android smartphone competition, a gigantic Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei released its new smartphone under the name of Huawei Mercury. Some of its great features include 1.4 MHz processor, Android Gingerbread OS, 8 megapixels camera, GPS, WiFi and many more. Closer look, here is the review and detail specification of the smartphone.

Huawei Mercury comes in a full touchscreen and a candybar design measuring 122 x 61 x 13 mm and weighing 139 grams. It is made out of glossy plastic materials with rounded edges. On the front side, there is a 4.0 inches capacitive touchsreeen with 16M colors supports. The screen looks bright and sharp enough in its 480 x 854 pixels resolution. Above the screen are front facing camera and indicator light. Beneath the screen is resided by four capacitive keys for Home, Menu, Back and Search functions. The left side features volume rocker while the right side is left plain. On the top side, there are power button and 3.5 mm headset jack whereas the bottom side is microUSB charging port. The back side is resided by camera lens and LED flash.

Under the hood, Huawei Mercury is powered by 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM8655T Snapdragon processor with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. To run all of its application, Mercury is supported by Android OS, v2.3.3 (Gingerbread).  Huawei Mercury works on CDMA network and already supports CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps data network. Experiencing its high speed data connection, there is a stock Android web browser that supports HTML and Adobe Flash. Other connectivity coming with Huawei Mercury includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v2.1 (A2DP and EDR), and microUSB v2.0 connection. There is also GPS navigation system A-GPS support.

Coming for camera feature, Huawei Mercury is equipped by two decent cameras; a VGA front facing camera for self portraits and video chat and an 8 megapixels main camera with LED flash on the back side. The main camera gives its best performance and quality in capturing images up to 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution. The camera also does great performance in recording HD video of 720p at 30 fps. For storage, Huawei Mercury provide 2 GB internal memory and up to 32 GB external memory via microSD card. The multimedia feature comes in stock Android media player with a Huawei skin for playing music and video. It manages to play music in MP3/WAV/eAAC+ formats and video in MP4/H.263/H.264 formats.

Messaging features of Huawei Mercury includes SMS (threaded view), MMS, Instant Messenger, Email, and Push Mail. Like other Android smartphone, Mercury also comes with pre-loaded Google service applications. You may also download other Android application available via Android market. Other features include Active noise cancellation with dedicated microphone, Organizer, Photo viewer and editor, Document viewer, SNS integration, Voice memo, Voice dial, Voice commands, Java MIDP emulator, Accelerometer, Gyro, and Multitouch. Last but not least, Huawei Mercury is supported by standard battery Li-Po 1900 mAh that is rated up to 6 hours 30 minutes of talk time or 380 hours of standby time.
