Strengthened its 4G’s line smartphone, AT&T together with Huawei released its midrange smartphone namely AT&T Impulse 4G. It comes with 4G network supports, Android Froyo OS, 800 MHz processor, 5MP camera and many more. For details, here is the review and specifications of the phone.
AT&T Impulse 4G
AT&T Impulse 4G is a full touchscreen phone measuring 120 x 65 x 11.6 mm and weighing 130 grams. The phone’s exterior is furnished by plastic glass material on the front panel, rubberized soft touch material on the back panel and smoked silver accent band around the sides. Front panel is resided by 3.8 inches capacitive touchscreen support 16M colors along with four touch sensitive keys for Back, Menu, Home and Search functions below the screen and an earpiece above. Exploring around its side, there are 3.5 mm headset jack, Power button, volume control buttons, and microUSB port. On the back side, there are speakerphone, camera lens and LED flash.
Impulse 4G is powered by Android OS v2.2 (Froyo) with 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor with 512 MB RAM. The interface comes with five pages of Home screens that can be customized by adding widgets or shortcuts. Overall performance is decent, but sometime there are slightly lag occur.
AT&T Impulse 4G runs on AT&T 2G and 3G GSM network as well as AT&T's HSPA+ (4G) data network. In fact, it is really hard to hit actual 4G network; it usually sticks to HSDPA network. Internet experience can be done using built-in web browser supports HTML and Adobe Flash. Other connectivity includes WiFi, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, microUSB connection and GPS navigation system with A-GPS support.
AT&T Impulse 4G is also equipped by 5 megapixels camera with autofocus and LED flash. It can capture images up to 2592 х 1944 pixels resolution but in poor quality with muddy and grainy look. Video recording in 720p resolution at 30 fps shares poor camera quality as well. To store data, there is 890 MB internal memory and additional external memory up to 32 GB via microSD card. Come to multimedia features, there are stock Android music player and video player. The music player comes with standard setting and manages to play music of MP3/WAV/eAAC+ formats. Meanwhile, the video player manages to play video of MP4/H.263/H.264 formats. When playing video, it often experiences lag. At worst, playing video of 720p resolution will freeze the application entirely, requiring a force-quit.
Messaging features include SMS (threaded view), MMS, IM, Email, and Push Mail. Text input can be done using virtual on-screen QWERTY keyboard that work both on portrait and landscape view. Impulse 4G also come with pre-loaded AT&T applications such as AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Navigator, Documents to Go, Layar, myAT&T, and YPmobile along with pre-loaded Google service applications as well. There are also thousands more applications waited to be downloaded via Android market. Other features include SNS integration, Organizer, Photo viewer, Photo editor, Voice memo, Voice dial, Java MIDP emulator, and Accelerometer. Last but not least, AT&T Impulse 4G is powered by standard battery Li-ion 1500 mAh that is rated up to 8 hours 31 minutes of talk time.
