Kyocera Duracore, a Durable Basic Phone

Kyocera Duracore appeared in clamshell and rugged design. It is covered mostly by black strategically ribbed and rubberized Dura-Grip material with a silver-colored plate covering speaker phone on the back and front side. It is also a durable phone that is certified by Military Standard 810G-grade for salt, fog, humidity, transport shock and thermal shock resistant. The phone’s dimension is quite bulky and heavy measuring 98.5 x 49.8 x 23.9 mm and weighing 126 grams. Located on the front is 1 inch monochrome external display with 96 x 64 pixels resolution. It shows signal strength, battery life, date, time, missed called and message notification. The right side of the phone is resided by 2.5 mm headset jack while the left side is volume rocker, PTT button and microUSB charging port. Up top (clamshell closed), there are buttons dedicated for speakerphone and calling list shortcut. Flip open Kyocera Duracore to reveal its 2.0 inches external display supports 256K colors and 240 x 320 pixels resolution along with navigation array and alphanumerical keypad right below the display. The navigation array consists of two soft keys, a Web key, a Speakerphone key, a Talk key, a Back key, an End or Power key and a silver circular toggle with middle OK key.

Kyocera Duracore runs on 2G CDMA 800/1900 Mhz and 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network. In addition, it is also supported by EV-DO Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps data connectivity. Browsing internet can be done using built-in web browser supports WAP 2.0/xHTML. It is manages to handle WAP web pages but hardly in loading more complex web pages such as HTML web pages. Kyocera Duracore is also equipped by other connectivity such as Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and EDR as well as microUSB v2.0 connection. Furthermore, it has GPS navigation system with A-GPS support.

Kyocera Duracore is not a smartphone but it is powered by Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP) with Qualcomm QSC6055 chipset to support its performance. Messaging features of Duracore include text messaging (SMS) in threaded view, multimedia messaging (MMS) and email. Email service allows you to access your email account through IMAP, POP3, SMTP accounts. Not to mention its Psuh-To-Talk feature that turning the phone to walkie-talkie handset.

As a basic phone and durable phone, Kyocera Duracore comes with minimum multimedia features. It is only equipped by music player and FM radio, with no camera, no camcorder and no video player. Notification alerts provided by Kyocera Duracore are Polyphonic ringtones, Vibration mode, Flight mode, Silent mode, and Speakerphone. It is also featured Organizer such as Calendar, Alarm, and Calculator. To support all its performance, Kyocera Duracore uses standard battery Li-Ion 1360 mAh that is rated up to 8.1 hours of talk time.
