Joining the competition of 4G LTE smartphone, Samsung released its smartphone named Samsung Stratosphere. The smartphone is also released aiming to fill the gap of the missing physical QWERTY keyboard on the 4G LTE smartphone available in market. In details, here is a review of the smartphone.
Samsung Stratosphere design features a full touch screen with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard measuring 126 x 65 x 14 mm and weighing 164 grams. The display comes with 4.0 inches capacitive touch screen with Super AMOLED technology to produce bright and fascinating images. Above the display is a 1.3 megapixels front camera, and at the bottom are the four touch-sensitive buttons for Menu, Home, Back and Search function. Slide the phone to the right and there is a full QWERTY keyboard arranged in a nice 5 rows layout with dedicated number keys at the top row.
Samsung Stratosphere comes running on Android OS v2.3 (Gingerbread) with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. There are five different pages of Home screen that can be personalized by adding widgets or shortcuts as well as changing the wallpaper. Four colorful icons for accessing the Phone, Contacts, Messaging and Applications are placed on the bottom of the Home screen. Although the phone only comes with 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM, accessing and running applications seems to be smooth without any significant lag.
Samsung Stratosphere also comes with all messaging features you wanted to have including SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, Push Mail, IM, and RSS. The instant messaging features allow you to connect to your AIM, Windows Live, and Yahoo! buddy lists. For the email services there are Gmail services, POP3, IMAP, Yahoo! Mail, AOL, and Windows Live. Furthermore, there is a great application namely Quick Office allowing you to open or create Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files, and also open Adobe PDF files with it. For the text input, Samsung Stratosphere offers the slide-out physical full QWERTY keyboard to type out long message and the on-screen virtual keyboard if you just need to type in short and quick.
Other main features of the Samsung Stratosphere is that it already supports 4G LTE data network with Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps. Internet browsing can be done by built-in web browser supports HTML and Adobe Flash web pages. You may also connect to internet via WiFi hotspot as well. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth, DLNA, and microUSB connection. The phone also features GPS Navigation System with A-GPS support and Google Maps integration.
Samsung Stratosphere is equipped by two cameras; a 1.3 megapixels front camera and 5 megapixels main camera with autofocus and LED flash located on the back side of the phone. The camera features provide numerous settings and adjustments, such as the shooting modes, image resolution, effects, scene modes, ISO, and Geo-tagging. For video recording, the camera can only record up to 720 x 480 pixels resolution. To store data, the phone provides 4 GB internal memory and up to 32 GB external memory via microSD card. Samsung Stratosphere is also equipped by media player for playing music and video.
To support its great features, Samsung Stratosphere uses standard battery Li-Ion 1800 mAh. The battery life can last up to 8 hours of talk time or up to 212 hours of standby time.
