As one of the big phone manufacture, Samsung continuously develop and create unique phone that different than other. One of those phones is Samsung DoubleTime as it comes with micro-laptop feel and dual touchscreen display as well as attractive exterior. In details, let’s have a look at the review below.
Samsung DoubleTime
At first sight, Samsung DoubleTime appears to be a full touchscreen phone. Closer look, there is a hidden secret inside as you open the clamshell to the right; an internal display with full QWERTY keyboard, turning the phone into a micro-laptop feel. The phone comes with the dimension of 4.5 x 2.5 x 0.6 inches and weighing 5.2 ounces. As implies in its name, DoubleTime features two identical touchscreen displays measuring 3.2 inches with 320 x 480 pixels resolution. The external display is located on the front side along with four physical buttons for Menu, Home, Back and Search function right below it.
Flip open the phone to the right and you will see the full QWERTY keyboard and the second display or internal display - works only on landscape view. The flip locks into position at a 135 degree angle giving you a micro-laptop feel and can go further to a full 180 degree. The QWERTY keyboard is arranged in 4 rows with square buttons. Exploring around the phone side, there are microUSB port, microphone, 3.5 mm headset jack, power button, and volume control buttons. On the back side, there are camera lens and speakerphone.
Samsung DoubleTime is supported by Android OS v2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz User Interface. A little disappointment as DoubleTime only runs on single-core 600 MHz Qualcomm processor with 260 MB of RAM. Running applications are always accompanied by slowdown, lag, and delay, makes you upset the most and wonder how this could all happen.
DoubleTime runs on GSM network and already support HSDPA and HSUPA data network. Internet experience can be done by using built-in web browser with HTML and Adobe Flash support. Other connectivity includes WiFi, Bluetooth, microUSB connection and aGPS with Google Maps integration.
DoubleTime is also equipped by 3.2 megapixels camera with autofocus. The image quality is still average, sometimes looks poor with washed out colors and lack of detail. The camera can also record video but limited only on QVGA video. Storing data, there is 91 MB internal memory and additional external memory up to 32 GB via microSD card. Multimedia features include music player and video player with standard interface and equalizer.
Messaging features of Samsung DoubleTime includes SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, and Instant Messaging. For the text input, it is recommended that you stick to the physical QWERTY keyboard. Although the external display is equipped with virtual on-screen keyboard, it is rather delayed at times you type in fast speed.
Other features available are SNS integration, Organizer, Document viewer, Voice memo, Java MIDP emulator, and Accelerometer. DoubleTime also comes with pre-loaded Google service applications such as Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, and Picasa integration. Thousands more applications are also available to be downloaded via Android Market. Lastly, Samsung DoubleTime is powered by standard battery Li-Ion 1.200 mAh. The battery can last up to 6 hours of talk time or up to 10 days of standby time.
