Pantech Hotshot, a Basic Phone with Touchscreen

Designed for Verizon wireless, Pantech released its touch screen phone namely Pantech Hotshot. Pointing at its name, Hotshot is expected to have a great feature. But the phone appears to be a basic phone with standard features. Closer look, let’s have a look at the review of Pantech Hotshot below.

Pantech Hotshot comes with a full touch screen and candy bar design. The phone is very slim and light measuring 119 x 60 x 9 mm and weighing 91 grams. The front side is housed by 3.2 inches capacitive touch screen with 256K colors support and 240 x 400 pixels resolution. The back side features 3.15 megapixels camera with no flash. Comes on the interface, Hotshot has three Home screens that can be customized. You can also add pet contacts, pictures and shortcuts to those Home screens.

Hotshot is not a smartphone, so there is no Android, Windows Phone or any other contemporary platform you might think of.  It is just a basic phone with a slim design and touch screen.

Pantech Hotshot runs on Verizon CDMA 800/1900 MHz and CDMA2000 1x network. For data connectivity, Hotshot already supports Rev. 0 up to 153.2 Kbps data network. For internet experience, there is a built-in web browser with WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML, and Adobe Flash Lite support. If the browser seems not powerful enough, there is an Opera Mobile Browser available. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, and microUSB connection. The phone is also supported by GPS navigation system with with A-GPS support, and VZ Navigator. The GPS navigation system also supports Points of interest (POI), and Turn-by-turn navigation.

Pantech Hotshot is also equipped by 3.15 megapixels camera without autofocus or flash. The camera can capture images up to 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution. The image quality is still average. The camera can also be functioned to record video.

When comes to multimedia features, Pantech Hotshot offers a built-in media player for playing music and video. The music player can play music in MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ formats. Meanwhile, the video player supports MP4/H.264/H.263 video formats. You can enjoy the multimedia through Loudspeaker or 3.5 mm headset jack. For storage, Hotshot comes with 2 GB memory in a pre-installed microSD card, extendable up to 32GB via a microSD.

For messaging features, Pantech Hotshot provides text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), Email, and Instant Messaging. Text input is done by virtual keyboard. Sound alert types include Vibration mode, Silent mode, Polyphonic ringtones (64) and MP3 ringtones. Other features of Pantech Hotshot are Organizer, Voice Memo, Games and Proximity Sensor. The organizer features include Calendar, Alarm, World clock, Stopwatch, Calculator, Unit converter and Notepad. The phonebook can save up to 1000 entries; each may consist of multiple numbers, Picture ID, Ringtone ID and notes as well as assign caller groups.

To support all the features, Pantech Hotshot uses standard battery Li-Ion 1000 mAh. The battery life is rated up to 5 hours of talk time or up to 342 hours of standby time.
