Designed for Sprint, Motorola released one of its excellent smartphone namely Motorola Photon. Comes with the combination of Android Gingerbread, 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 1 GB RAM as well as massive features, Photon surely become a beastly smartphone. In details, here is a review of the Photon smartphone.
Motorola Photon resembles a full touch screen design with cut-off corners for a more masculine look and a soft-touch finished at the back side. The most attractive portion of the phone is 4.3 inches qHD capacitive touch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Above the screen, there are an earpiece, a front camera and a LED notification light, not to mention four touch-sensitive keys right below the screen. Exploring around the smartphone’s body, there are a silver volume rocker and a camera button on the right side while the left side sits microUSB port and microHDMI port. A Power or Screen Lock button and a 3.5 mm headphone jack are located on the top side. On the back side, there is 8 megapixels camera and dual LED flash.
Motorola Photon is powered by Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread with MotoBlur UI’s customized version to Android. The interface is not quite MotoBlur UI, but the widgets and icons are similar to MotoBlur UI. Accessing application is very fast with no lag even in multitasking performance. Thanks to its Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and Nvidia Tegra 2 AP20H as well as 1 GB RAM and 2 GB ROM support.
One of the interesting features of Motorola Photon is its ability to support two networks; CDMA or GSM network. While you’re in US, Photon runs only on Sprint CDMA network. Once you're traveling abroad outside US, you can change to GSM network using local GSM SIM card in the rest of the world. Sprint CDMA network for Photon already supports CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev.A up to 3.1 Mbps for data connectivity while the GSM network supports HSDPA and HSUPA data connectivity. The web browser available is extremely quick rendering web pages as it already support HTML web pages and Adobe Flash. Other connectivity includes WiFi, DLNA, HDMI connection, and microUSB connection. There is also GPS navigation system with A-GPS support.
Motorola Photon is also equipped by 8 megapixels camera with autofocus and dual LED flash. The camera performs very well with great details and sharpness especially in strong light. The smartphone can also records HD video 720p resolution at smooth 30 fps. For the storage, Motorola Photon has 16 GB internal memory and also additional external memory up to 32 GB via microSD card. For the multimedia, Photon is powered by custom Motorola’s media players for Android.
