AT&T Z331 comes with a clamshell design and simplistic exterior. It feels compact and light measuring 98 x 52 x 17 mm and weighing 90 grams. On the front side (clamshell closed), there is 1.46 inches OLED external display with 128 x 128 pixels resolution. The external display shows signal strength, battery life, date, time as well as caller ID. Above the display, there is a 3 megapixels camera. Flip open the clamshell to reveal its 2.40 inches TFT internal display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution and 262.000 color supports. Below the internal display sits navigation array and alphanumerical keypad with white backlight. The navigation array consists of two soft keys, a rounded toggle key, a Call key, an End Call or Power key, a Menu key, a dedicated Speakerphone key and a Clear key.

AT&T Z331 runs on AT&T quad band GSM network and already supports HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbs data network. For internet experience, Z331 is supported by Opera Mini browser with as well as built-in NetFront web browser support WAP and xHTML web pages. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth v2.0 with EDR and microUSB connection. There is also GPS navigation system with A-GPS support.

AT&T Z331 is also equipped by 3 megapixels camera with 4x digital zoom. Unfortunately, it comes without autofocus or LED flash. The camera can also record video in 176 x 144 pixels resolution. For storage, AT&T Z331 provides 140 MB internal memory. If that is not enough, there is additional external memory up to 8 GB via microSD card. AT&T Z331 also have digital player but only limited in playing music in MP3, AMR, WAV, ACC, ACC+ formats. In addition, the multimedia feature also comes with FM radio supports.

Messaging features of AT&T Z331 include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), Instant Messaging and email. Instant messaging feature is supported by Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, and Windows Live Messenger. Email feature gives you direct access to email service providers such as Windows Live, AOL, Yahoo! Mail, or Gmail as well as to your own IMAP/POP3/SMTP accounts.

The phonebook available can save up to 500 entries; each may consist of multiple phone numbers, email, nickname, street address, and picture caller ID. Organizer features of AT&T Z331 include Calendar, Alarm, and Calculator. For notification alert, AT&T Z331 comes with vibration mode, silent mode, polyphonic ringtones, MP3 ringtones and speakerphone. The reception of the phone is good enough and speakerphone sounds clear and loud. Last but not least, AT&T Z331 is powered by standard battery 950 mAh. The battery is rated up to 3 hours of talk time or up to 200 hours of standby time.
