Samsung Illusion, an Entry-Level Smartphone to Verizon

Recently, Samsung launched its new entry-level smartphone for Verizon Wireless. Supported by Gingerbread OS, the phone comes with the name of Samsung Illusion. How is the performance and feautures, let’s take a look at full details of Samsung Illusion below.

It comes up with classic design of Samsung touchscreen phone; all black chassis candybar with rounded corners and plastic material. Samsung Illusion is compact and fits well in the hand measuring at 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches and weighing at 4 ounces. The front side of the phone is housed by 3.5 inches HVGA TFT display (320 x 480 pixels). Below the screen, there are four touch button; Menu, Home, Back and Search button. On the left side, there are volume controls and microSD card slot while the Power/Lock key is on the right side of the phone. On the up side, there is a 3.5mm headset jack. MicroUSB/charger port is located in the bottom side of the phone. The back is housed by 3 MP camera and speakerphone.

Samsung Illusion uses Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. Four icons of phone, contacts, messaging and applications are placed in the bottom of the five pages Home screen. There is a standard Application Drawer that can be customized whether it is side-to-side or a single scrolling view. There is also the standard Widgets. All the application in the Samsung Illusion runs very smooth and loads quickly, thanks to its 1GHz Hummingbird processor with the PowerVR SGX 540 GPU and 512MB of RAM.

It is using Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread for operating system which supports Google Mobile Services including Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search and Google Maps as well as access to download thousands of Android application via Android Market. It also support full messaging features; SMS, MMS, IM and email. For email, there is email supports for web mail and corporate email support for Microsoft Office Exchange.

For internet connectivity, Samsung Illusion is supported by EVDO (3G) Rev A data network. You can browse the internet using the WebKit based browser that already supports flash. Along with Verizon EVDO network support, the web loads fast enough. The connection can also be done using Mobile Hotspot capability up to five WiFi-enabled devices. There is also Bluetooth 3.0 technology and USB port.

It is also well equipped by 3 megapixels camera. The camera interfaces uses the typical Samsung camera interface that offer different setting of shooting modes, resolutions, scenes, white balance, and color effect. The images quality is good enough. The camera can also record videos at 720x480 pixels resolution and 30 frames per second. Although, it is not HD quality, the quality is good, the colors look neutral, and the detail is fine. To store data, Samsung Illusion comes up with internal memory of 2GB ROM. And if that is not enough, there is also external memory up to 32 GB via microSD card. For multimedia, Samsung Illusion is powered by built-in media player for playing both music and videos.

For supporting those features, Samsung Illusion uses 1500mAh battery that provides up to 6 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby time. It will be available online at www.verizonwireless.com on 23 November 2011, and will be available in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores in January 2012.
