Motorola DROID 4, the Fourth DROID’s Line

The fourth installment of DROID’s line, here is Motorola DROID 4. Like its Droid’s siblings, DROID 4 offers great performance as well as features including 1.2 GHz processor, Gingerbread OS, 4G LTE supports, 8 megapixels camera, GPS, and many more. In details, let’s have a look at the review below.

Motorola DROID 4 comes with a full touch screen design with a slide-out landscape QWERTY keyboard. It is claimed to be the slimmest smartphone among the same type of phone measuring 127 x 67.3 x 12.7 mm. But DROID 4 may seem a bit heavy weighing 178.9 grams. The front side is resided by 4.0 inches capacitive touchscreen that supports 16M colors. Although it doesn’t feature AMOLED panel, the screen looks quite sharp and bright. Above the screen, there are a front facing camera and an earpiece speaker. Below the screen are four touch-sensitive keys for Menu, Home, Back and Search function. Slide the phone to the right to reveal its landscape full QWERTY keyboard. It is arranged in five rows with full number keys on the first row. The back side features camera lens and LED flash.

Under the hood, Motorola DROID 4 is powered by Dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor with 1 GB RAM. To run all of its applications, DROID 4 also comes with Android OS v2.3 (Gingerbread). A little bit disappointing, but Motorola said that they will provide an update to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future. Nevertheless, DROID 4’s powerful processor and Gingerbread OS have worked well enough to provide smooth and responsive performance. For the interface, it is appears as a customized MOTOBLUR user interface that can be customized as well.

Droid 4 runs on Verizon’s CDMA network and supports Verizon’s 4G LTE data network. It brings up fast connection right of internet browsing from the get-go. The web browser provided also gives contribution to the fast internet browsing through its HTML and Adobe Flash support. Other connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with LE+EDR, HDMI, microUSB v2.0 connection and GPS navigation system with A-GPS, S-GPS, and Glonass support.

Motorola DROID 4 is also equipped by two cameras; a 1.3 megapixels front facing camera and an 8 megapixels main camera with autofocus and LED flash on the back side. The front facing camera can be used to self portrait, video chats and even record video in 720p resolution. Coming to the main camera, it also does great performance in capturing images up to 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution. It also is functioned to record video in HD 1080p resolution at 30 fps. To store data, DROID 4 provides 16 GB internal memory and additional microSD external memory up to 32 GB. In multimedia features, it is equipped by media player for playing music and video.

Messaging features include SMS (threaded view), MMS, IM, Email, and Push Email. DROID 4 also comes with other features such as pre-loaded Google service applications, SNS integration, Photo viewer and editor, Document viewer, Organizer, Voice memo, Voice dial, Java MIDP emulator, Accelerometer, Multitouch and Speakerphone. Last but not least, Motorola DROID 4 is powered by standard battery Li-Ion 1785 mAh. The battery life is rated up to 8.5 days of standby time or up to 12 hours 30 minutes of talk time.
