Sync Contacts with GMail On Your Android Mobile

Never loose any of your contacts even if you loose your mobile or change your mobile. This is the easiest and best way to keep your contacts safe. Sync them with your Gmail account and they will be in your Android mobile within a few seconds when you start Syncing.


Well there are different cases to save your contacts in Gmail. It might be from your Old Nokia or any other phone, from one Android device to another, Or syncing the contacts from your Android device which are not synced with your Google account.


Sync Contacts from your old Nokia mobile:
- Go to contacts in your nokia mobile (if you are running Symbian 6 and above).
- Back them up in your memory card.
- Remove the memory card and insert it in your Android Device.
- Go to contacts in your Android mobile and press the option key.
- Select Import/Export and Import contacts from the Memory Card.
- There is a Merge option in the contacts. Press that and it will ask you which Gmail account would you like to merge the contacts with (If you have multiple accounts). Select the one you want your contacts to be synced with and the job is done.
If you do not have the merge option (not available in some Android versions) then do this:
- Export the contacts in a csv (comma separated value) format to the memory card and transfer the file to your computer.
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Go to contacts and import the contacts from the csv file you just copied. All your contacts will be in your Gmail then.
- Delete all contacts from your mobile (just to avoid double entries).
- In your Android device, go to settings, accounts & sync, gmail id. Select Sync contacts.. All contacts will be sync'd and available on your finger tips in your mobile ;)



If you are running a Symbian 4 Nokia mobile or something in which the contacts cannot be backed up in the memory card follow this:
- Connect your mobile to Nokia PC Suite on your computer.
- Sync the contacts to Microsoft Outlook.
- Export the contacts from Outlook in a csv (comma separated value) format.
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Go to contacts and import the contacts from the csv file you just created form the outlook. 
All your contacts will be in your Gmail then.
- In your Android device, go to settings, accounts & sync, gmail id. Select Sync contacts.. All contacts will be sync'd and available on your finger tips in your mobile ;)


From one Android device to another/Just Sync with the same device: 
- There is a Merge option in the contacts. Press that and it will ask you which Gmail account would you like to merge the contacts with (If you have multiple accounts). Select the one you want your contacts to be synced with.
- On your New Android, go to settings, accounts & sync, gmail id. Select Sync contacts.


If you do not have the merge option (not available in some Android versions) then do this:


- Export the contacts in a csv (comma separated value) format to the memory card and transfer the file to your computer.
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Go to contacts and import the contacts from the csv file you just copied. All your contacts will be in your Gmail then.

I personally use an Android mobile and a Blackberry. In both my mobiles, the contacts are synced with the same gmail account which makes my task super easy. I don't have to bother about adding contacts separately in both the mobiles. They are sync'd automatically :D
