Facebook Acquires Snaptu for $60-$70M

Facebook, the social networking giant that has more than 500 million users and counting, has flexed its financial muscle to the tune of $60 to $70 million by purchasing Israeli company Snaptu. Apps developed by Snaptu are specially designed to work across a larger variety of lower-powered devices instead of the high powered smartphones that you see in the markets these days. The app itself is free, but users will have to assemble certain they can pay the documents connection. Looks like Facebook wants their app to proliferate just about any and every mobile device from henceforth.

Confirmed this weekend by Facebook, the Social giant has acquired Snaptu, an Israeli start-up that develops mobile apps. According to Snaptu’s mission statement;”For online service providers, media companies and content owners we provide a large and rapidly growing global channel that requires little setup and no financial or technical investment.”

Snaptu struck a similar deal with the professional social behemoth, LinkedIn to develop a seamless mobile application for their users.
