Silverback's Starke city bikes charge your gadgets

Bike maker Silverback has finally added something to its new Starke range that nerdy cyclists have wanted for years: a USB port. The four-strong lineup of city bikes all have a dynamo-powered USB port up on top of the head-tube, ready to charge cellphones, MP3 players, GPS units or anything else. When not engaged in recharging your cellphone, the front dynamo hub runs the lighting system.

It’s incredibly practical, and bike commuters will soon be able to enjoy many of the same comforts as their car-bound enemies: cup warmers, USB-powered fans (very useful) and maybe even a USB-powered reading lamp (I put this one is as a joke, but it might make map reading easier at night).

Otherwise, the Starkes are a smart-looking bunch, running from the 31-pound (14-kilo) Starke 1 up to the 25-pound (11.4-kilo) Starke Sub Zero. All have the same “Flow Formed Nickel Alloy” frame, and all have disk brakes front and rear. What differs are the components and drivetrain. The lower end models get chains and derailleurs, while the Sub Zero gets an internal-geared hub and a belt drive.

The Starkes were shown off at last week’s Interbike, and are part of Silverback’s “2012 platform.” As such, we have no prices or launch dates, and the specs may change (which is why I didn’t bother with brands in the spec list, although you can probably guess most of it is Shimano).

Tweeting from Wembley Stadium

Tweeting from Wembley Stadium today where today Manchester United faces Barcelona in Champions League final. Should be a good test to see how people tweet under the influence of alcohol. Despite massive crowds in London so far we are not seeing impressive levels of tweeting.

Use the High Density by clicking the Use High Density button.

In this mode you are see a view of a smaller range, intended for more densely populated areas.

You can see the area around Wembley is producing a cloud of geo-tagged tweets during the game. This same geo-tagged tweet cloud will float over almost all major event.

New Zealand V Sri Lanka ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Semi Final

New Zealand have already exceeded expectations given their current status in international cricket. They have kept their World Cup history in tact in qualifying for the semi final six times. But now New Zealand will be up against Sri Lanka in the first ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final in a bid to create history.
The task before New Zealand will not be easy because Sri Lanka will be on home advantage, playing at the Premadasa Stadium with a vociferous crowd behind them. New Zealand will also be up against quality bowling in the form of Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan who could test New Zealand’s batting line up, whose frailty has often caused their downfall.
New Zealand will rely heavily on their bowling to restrict the strong batting line up of Sri Lanka that decimated England in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 quarterfinals. With Sri Lanka familiar with spin, Daniel Vettori and Nathan McCullum have their work cut out though. But it will be the joint efforts of bowling and batting that are going to help New Zealand cross the line against Sri Lanka, who will be considered favourites going into the match.
The New Zealand coach, John Wright, has called for calm heads with aggressive intent, unlike the last time these two teams met in the league stage where Sri Lanka comprehensively defeated New Zealand. New Zealand would like nothing more than to extract revenge by winning the semi finals to make it to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for an encounter against either India or Pakistan next Sunday.

Vibram FiveFingers Bikila

Me and my wife had finally purchased our very first pair of Vibram FiveFingers Bikila.
I've got this one.

And she's got this one.
We're so happy and excited.  I've purchased mine at Takashimaya, and her's at CocoClub at Holland V.  We went to a few outlet before getting hers.  In fact, she wanted the Magenta coloured ones.  But it seems like this blue one is the last pair you could find in our small island of Singapore, of a size 40.  Everyone told us that this is really popular with the ladies.  This blue one looks equally cool too.
It's $209 a pair.  I hope this is enough motivation for us to go for night walks or slow jog.  Cheers!

Under Armour's E39 performance shirt is electric

If athletic events were accessorized with coffee, comfy pajamas, and a particular knack for sedentariness, well, we'd be champs. Alas, sports are more typically characterized by movement which, we're told, increases the participant's pulse, breathing, and likelihood of turning an arm into a tattooed sleeve. Nevertheless, we can't help but be intrigued by the Under Armour E39 ("E" for electric) compression shirt. The performance tee features a removable "bug" sensor equipped with a triaxial accelerometer, processor, and 2GB of storage flanked by additional monitors that measure the wearer's heart rate and breathing.
A system provided by Zephyr can then analyze the athlete's individual movements and biometric data to help identify performance issues like when the body is moving out of sync thereby slowing down an athlete's linear speed. Scouts, coaches, and trainers can collect the data over Bluetooth from smartphones, tablets, or PCs to measure and potentially improve performance. An athlete measuring a low G-force for their particular sport could, for example, be put on a strength training regimen to help improve explosiveness.
In the future, Under Armour sees the data being collected and analyzed in real-time allowing coaches to replace under performing players right on the field. The NFL has already equipped a handful of players with the E39 shirts during its annual Scouting Combine event -- the results of which you can see in the video after the break.
