Jaguar Land Rover's stunning expo lineup

jaguar stunning landrover at auto expo
Exhibiting alongside parent company Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover’s display is bound to have won the brand a whole host of new fans. India is an important emerging market for Jaguar and the manufacturer seems to have pulled out all the stops to impress Auto Expo goers. The display includes the facelifted XF, the XJ and Jaguar’s most powerful production car yet, the wild 542bhp XKR-S. However, it is the pair of Jaguar concept cars that really drew eyeballs.

The first of these is the C-X75 hybrid supercar that will be built in partnership with Williams F1 team. Slated for future production, the low-slung supercar looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie. It’s a range-extender hybrid that uses a pair of mini turbines instead of a conventional combustion engine as a generator for the electric motors. It shouldn’t be dismissed as an anaemic eco car though – it produces 778bhp and can hit a top speed of 330kmh.

Sharing the limelight with the C-X75 is the C-X16 which is a Porsche 911-sized sports car.  The concept’s extremely tight skinning, sloping roofline and rear haunches look really smashing in the flesh. Power is courtesy a supercharged, direct-injection, 376bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. However, a 'push to pass' button on the steering wheel frees up energy stored via an F1-style Kinetic Energy Recovery System, and kicks in an electric motor that boosts power by 94bhp for up to 10 seconds. Performance is a claimed 0-100kph time of 4.4 sec with top speed limited to 300kph.

The adjacent Land Rover stand had its own show-stoppers as well with the spotlight on the DC100 and the DC100 Sport concepts. The concepts, first shown at the 2011 Frankfurt Motorshow, point to what the next generation Defender (due in 2015) will look like. If the design is anything to go by, the new model will share few visual elements with its legendary predecessor. The angular cues remain but the whole treatment is very futuristic. Land Rover is yet to fine tune the styling but has said it wants to design a product that is ‘as relevant in Mumbai as it is in California’.

Elsewhere in the stand, the recently-launched Evoque garnered its fair share of attention too.

JLR to showcase a slew of concepts

cx 75 concept car
India is a home away from home for JLR since Tata Motors took the reins, so these iconic British brands want to put their best foot forward at the Expo to showcase what they are capable of.
Waiting to shock and awe you will be the DC100 and DC100 Sport. These radical concepts preview the 2015 successor to the Defender and the inspired styling and off-road potential are hard to miss.
land rover dc100 conceptThe poster-worthy C-X16 concept will show the future of Jaguar design. Proposed specs are a 380bhp 3.0-litre V6 and a ‘push-to-pass’ F1-style electric boost system that makes another 95bhp. The C-X16 can do a 0-100kph run in just 4.4sec. Yummy!
Jaguar may also display the turbine-powered C-X75 supercar at the show. To be developed with Williams F1, only 250 units will be built from when it goes on sale in 2013, so make sure you click your pictures because seeing another one in the flesh later will be really hard (unless you buy one). The facelifted XF and Evoque will be the other cars at the JLR hall.

Lexus launch in India confirmed

Toyota has officially confirmed that it will introduce the Lexus brand in India by 2013. The Japanese carmaker has been evaluating the feasibility of its luxury brand in India for several years now and has finally decided to go ahead with the launch. “We have been watching India with keen interest and we are happy to announce that we will bring Lexus to India in 2013” confirmed Yukitoshi Funo, executive vice-president of Toyota Motor Corporation.
The Lexus range will be sold through dedicated dealerships, though several Toyota dealers are likely to take up the franchise to take advantage of their service set up that requires common equipment for both brands. However, Toyota will take a very cautious and diligent approach to appointing dealerships. “We would rather have a few, quality dealerships than a large number of mediocre outlets” said Funo who also emphasised that he wanted to differentiate Lexus from its German rivals. Last month Kazuo Ohara, who oversees the Lexus brand globally, made a visit to India and gave the green light after intense market research, which included studying the dealer and service outlets of other brands.
Toyota plans to follow a top-down strategy and the initial plan is to introduce the LS saloon and RX SUV, both premium luxury models. This is likely to be followed by the GS executive luxury saloon which competes directly with the E-class and 5-series.
The company will initially bring the Lexus range as imports or completely built-up (CBU) units to test the market before considering local assembly. “We need consider local production to compete with the others in the market, but this is still being studied,” said Funo. It is likely that the compact IS models will be locally assembled in time.
The initial feedback and market studies for the Lexus brand have been very encouraging. “The Indian consumers’ awareness of Lexus is quite surprising and much more than we anticipated,” said Funo. However, the challenge will be to price the cars competitively, especially since Lexus will initially import cars and will be at a cost disadvantage in comparison to rival luxury brands that locally assemble and hence pay lower duty. Also, there is no diesel engine in the Lexus range which could be another disadvantage. However, Lexus will introduce its hybrid technology, which could click with customers looking for the ultimate in refinement.

2010 Jaguar C-X75 Review

Elegance, power and sustainability combined in Jaguar's 75th anniversary concept car.
First debuted at the Paris Auto Show and more recently presented in LA, Jaguar's C-X75 concept car is a celebration of design, innovation and class. Loosely based on the classic XJ13 concept the C-X75 exhibits the power and elegance of a supercar while showcasing cutting edge technology that makes it super efficient and environmentally friendly.
Each wheel on the C-X75 is driven by an individual 145kW electric motor which are all powered by one large 19.6kWh lithium ion battery. This system delivers all wheel drive and promises to provide extra control and traction as well as intense torque (0-62 in 3.4 seconds). On a single charge, which takes 6 hours from a conventional household plug to achieve, the C-X75 can travel up to 68 miles with zero emissions.

For extended range Jaguar has utilized some fantastic aeronautical engineering technology by equipping the vehicle with two 70kW gas powered micro turbines. The turbines can used to quickly recharge the internal battery or can be used in conjunction with the battery to achieve the cars top speed of 205 mph. If you plan on taking a more leisurely drive the turbine charged batteries provide the car with a theoretical range of 560 miles.

The vehicle has an complex ventilation system incorporated into the exterior design to cool the micro turbines. There are no side-view mirrors, instead cameras built into the back feed directly to a screen inside the cabin. The beautiful angles highlight the slick hyper aerodynamic look and are complimented by the beautiful 21 and 22 inch aluminum wheels. Up to 50% of the the light weight aluminum used in constructing the car is recycled and increases the performance and economy.

As with previous Jaguar models the interior is designed completely around the driver. The seats are fixed into the frame so upon entering the vehicle a flip of a switch brings the entire steering wheel, instrument panel and pedal box toward the driver for optimal positioning. The aeronautical theme is continued in the cabin, the started switch is positioned on an overhead control panel and the gear shift is modeled after the throttle control from a fighter jet. The information panels are also air craft inspired with a 3D simulated heads up display. Never to be out classed Jaguar added a nice analog detail, a custom designed watch from Bremont that mounts into the center console and is wound by the stopping and starting movements of the car.

2011 Jaguar XK Spring Edition

jaguar xk spring edition

Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most iconic models, the E-Type, this year. So to commemorate this occasion, the British automaker has released a new Spain-exclusive, limited-run Jaguar XK “Spring Edition”, complete with a myriad of aesthetic upgrades on both the exterior and interior of the car.

While we completely dig all the styling improvements that were made for the Spring Edition XK, we’re a little bothered because the car is only being sold in Spain, which means that unless we can have one imported to the US, then we’re going to have trouble getting this unique Jaguar XK model.

Having said that, the Jaguar XK is still one fine piece of machinery, regardless if it comes with special trims or not. We admit to having once lost some affinity for the Big Car in the past, but with their slew of newer and more recent models, including the XK Coupe and Convertible, our approval rating for this British automaker is steadily rising back to its former stature as one of Europe’s finest.

Exterior and Interior

The XK Spring Edition comes with two unique trims – the Sport Pack and the Bright Pack – each with their own unique features. The Sport Pack offers a choice of four exterior paint finishes, including Lunar Grey, Liquid Silver, Polaris, and Black Cherry Metallic. On top of the color options, the Sport Pack also comes with refreshed grilles, front upper and lower air intakes, and window outlines that been painted in glossy black with the trunk sporting a bezel color body.

On the other hand, the Bright Pack has five different color options, including Crystal Blue, Stratus Grey, Lunar Grey, Botanical, and Black Cherry. In addition to that, the Bright Pack painted the front air intakes, the trim of the luggage compartment, the mirror caps, and the front grille in a chrome finish. Unique to the Bright Pack is the addition of new side gills on the XK.

Unlike their contrasting exterior features, both the Sport Pack and the Bright Pack come with the same interior upgrades, which was inspired by the historic interior of the Jaguar E-Type while also keeping true with today’s stylish and luxurious design language. The heated leather seats have been perforated with Bondgrain with a choice of two designs in the center of the seat featuring a contrasting trim of Charcoal and Ivory. The Jaguar logo is also prominently embossed on the headrests. Meanwhile, the dashboard can be customized in either a Piano Black finish or Engine Spin Aluminum. Other equipment features of the Sport and Bright Pack of the XK Spring Edition include a heated front windscreen, sensor low tire pressure, active headlights, keyless entry, and air quality sensor.

Performance

The Jaguar XK is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 385 horsepower and 380 lb/ft of torque. This output produces a car capable of running 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph and a fuel consumption rating of 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg in the highway.

Pricing

Model Price (Euro) USD Converted from Official Euro Price
Spring Edition 5.0 V8 XK coupe with Sport Pack € 105,780 $149,600
Spring Edition XK 5.0 V8 convertible with Sport Pack € 115,030 $162,434
Spring Edition 5.0 V8 XK coupe with Bright Pack € 105,780 $149,600
Spring Edition 5.0 V8 XK convertible Bright Pack € 115,030 $162,434

Competition

The Jaguar XK Spring Edition will only be sold in Spain so it’s going to be extremely tough to buy one if your address isn’t from that country. Having said that, the standard Jaguar XK is still a pretty enticing option in its own right, one that should be heavily considered if you’re looking for a coupe or convertible sports car.

On the other hand, there is one automaker that can give you a doubts about buying a Jaguar, provided that you’re willing to shell out more than the Jaguar’s six-figure price tag for a nice bump in performance.

The new BMW 650i Coupe is powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 engine that develops a total of 400 horsepower between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and 450 lb/ft of torque between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The better performance numbers - albeit slightly - also give you a car that can post a faster 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds. Despite the Beamer’s more impressive output, both cars reach a top speed that’s limited to 155 mph.

So if you’re looking for something that’s offers a better sporty/luxury aesthetic ratio, we suggest you hit up the Big Cat. But if you’re looking for better performance, the Beamer is yours for the taking.

Jaguar C X75 2011

Gaydon, 2nd February 2011 – The Jaguar C-X75 was last night awarded the Louis Vuitton Classic Concept Award 2010 by a panel of luminaries from the worlds of design, fashion and luxury.

Undoubtedly the star of the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the C-X75 – judged by a Louis Vuitton panel – has once again beaten stiff competition. The panel was led by renowned automotive consultant and inaugurator of the prize, Christian Philippsen.

"Ian Callum, Jaguar's design director, and his team have achieved not only a beautiful design in clothing a world-premiere and mouth-watering technology, but also a true Jaguar, projecting the brand's DNA into the future without an ounce of nostalgia," said Philippsen.

Other members of the illustrious group of judges included author Serge Bellu, Louis Vuitton's Director of Innovation Xavier Dixsaut, McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, former Porsche design head Harm Lagaaij and journalist Masafumi Suzuki.

Jaguar, like Louis Vuitton, has built its reputation on the key foundations of luxury, attention to detail and understated elegance.

The C-X75 is an electric supercar built to celebrate 75 years of the Jaguar marque and was praised by the panel for the way in which it showcased the technology of the future with a beautiful design without looking to the past.

"It's fantastic for us to be recognised by the world of fashion with this award," said Ian Callum, Design Director for Jaguar. "We're at our best when we’re breaking the mould – making our cars stand out for all the right reasons.

C-X75 is only a concept supercar, but it's a clear statement of Jaguar's intent to continue creating bold, innovative and beautiful performance cars."

The entire Jaguar range has been the recipient of numerous plaudits worldwide in recent years with the pinnacle of the revitalised line-up, the XJ, having already won more than 25 major international awards since its launch just over a year ago.

2011 Jaguar XK-R

jaguar xk-r

Jaguar first unveiled the XK (or XK8) and XKR models in 1996 as successors for the old XJS models. Ten successful years after that, the second generation was presented at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, with both versions getting facelifts a few years later in 2009. Then and now, the XK and the XKR are two of the most successful Jaguars on the market.

The XKR really deserves the logo of the wild cat. With a 510 HP V8 engine under the hood, it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. You might say that the XKR is slower than its competitors, but let’s not forget that the XKR is about $20K less than the cheapest competitor and $30K less than the Porsche Turbo.

The model is entering the 2011 model year with the addition of two special editions: the XKR175 Limited Edition, the "XKR Speed Pack," and "XKR Speed and Black Pack".

Hit the jump to read more about the 2011 Jaguar XKR.

Exterior

For 2011, customers will be able to choose from two solid colors and eleven metallic exterior colors, with the Kyanite Blue and Salsa being unique for the model. If the customer opts for the convertible version, then they will be able to combine those colors with four standard top colors depending on the exterior shade: Black, Blue, Beige, and Dark Grey.

The XKR version will be distinguished by a set of 19" Tamana alloy wheels as standard (or two 20" wheels - dual-spoke Kalimnos and Nevis styles, and 19" Chrome 10-spoke Artura style) and an active exhaust system in which valves open at higher speeds to provide an even more powerful sound.

Interior

Despite being a sports car, the XKR comes with an interior that combines both sportiness and luxury. It gets luxurious soft-grain leather with contrast stitching offered in three color combination depending on the exterior paint color chosen: Caramel seats with a Caramel upper fascia and Warm Charcoal contrast stitching; Ivory seats with an Oyster upper fascia and Ivory contrast stitching; and Warm Charcoal seats with a Warm Charcoal upper fascia and Ivory contrast stitching.

The sporty look is accentuated by a unique R-style seat design and instruments with red pointers, while all models feature a white instrument gauge illumination. The convertible version has a triple-lined fabric roof that can be powered up or down in less than 18 seconds at speeds up to 20 mph.

Engine

Jaguar unveiled the AJ-V8 Gen III 5.0-liter V8 engines for the XKR’s 2010 model year and it was carried over for 2011. In the supercharged version, it delivers 510 hp and 461 lb.-ft. of torque. A twin vortex system (TVS) supercharger and twin water-cooled intercoolers are efficiently packaged in there as well. The XKR Coupe can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

Jaguar's C-X75 Concept Show In Paris

Paris, France— Jaguar's C-X75 concept was a surprise to everyone. We all expected the company to display a small sedan to slot in beneath the XF, a model the expanding brand desperately needs.

The C-X75 uses a pretty outrageous (and very cool) extended-range electric powertrain. At each of the four wheels sits a 195-hp electric motor, meaning a total of 780, along with 1187 lb-ft of torque and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 3.4 seconds. And rather than using some boring little four-cylinder engine to keep the batteries juiced up, the SuperJagUar uses a pair of small gas turbine (Turbine!) engines, each producing 96 hp. Top speed is reportedly 205 mph, and the batteries will last about 68 miles before the turbines start spinning to add about 500 more miles of range.

Jaquar
had other plans. Instead, the company pulled the sheet off of this lusty two-seat supercar. Like several other concepts like the Porsche 918, the C-X75 employs electric motors for forward thrust. But in the Jag’s case, there's a 195 hp motor for each of the four wheels. So this concept has 780 hp on tap.

Jaguar claims that the C-X75 can travel 68 miles on the battery pack and when it's depleted, an innovative gas-powered generator kicks on to supply the juice. Rather than use a conventional piston motor, Jaguar installed a pair of small turbine engines just behind the two fixed seats. These engines can supply 188 hp and can either charge the batteries or send juice to the electric motors.

Like all these concepts, the C-X75 is, at this point, just an idea. But we'e seen the micro turbine used in a hybrid before so perhaps the idea's time has arrived.
