The Carrier IQ was firstly founded in 2005 as the private mobile software from California. The service offered by Carrier IQ is the analytical service toward all of smartphones in America. In the whole world, the company’s service has been developed into the 150 device. However, the Carrier IQ is being in the big problem nowadays since this private industry send the individual’s data from the phone back to its carriers. Therefore, the Carrier IQ has been regularly interrogated for its interrupting in this case. The investigation upon Carrier starts when YouTube starts to air a private video of HTC EVI 3D Android users is showing how Carrier controls his phone. Carrier is stated to log the key, text and full URL accesses by the users. Briefly, Carrier has controlled and tracked every address the users have accessed. In facing this case, Carrier said that the accident happened because the user of that smartphone using the separate tools on his phone. Carrier said that the recorded data are done because of the debug log to help the software provided by the developers understand the problems happened on the phone whether something wrong happens with the application or not.
Carrier states that the problems happened because of hacker’s activity in penetrating the information toward the phone. However, although Carrier assumes that this company has done something right but the problems only happen on the Samsung and HTC phones which depend on the Android operating system by Google. This problem however has included the interference of Samsung and HTC instead of Carrier IQ. Those two manufacturers have argued that they never send data to Carrier. Both convince that the problems related to Carrier IQ are just an accident. To overcome the problem, Carrier IQ meets the Federal Communications Commission to cope with the problem and the way to solve it. The Carrier IQ argue that their company is a small company which runs software to help the users detect and diagnose the problems related to the networks and phones. But, although the Carrier IQ has strengthened its opinion on the service related to smartphones, the accident will bring a bad effect to their company. In the next development, the service offered by Carrier IQ might not run well. The similar services offered by other companies for bridging the users and providers will not be very useful anymore. Moreover, the users of smartphones will be more aware toward the similar services like what this Carrier offers.
As a prediction, to avoid any bad result, the provider and vendor of smartphones will tight its security system so that both of the sides can cooperate to protect the users’ privacy. There will be more time needed so that this purpose can be reached, through the Carrier IQ case, the users will learn much from the accident so that they will not easily choose phone which still use the service from Carrier. American telecommunication system needs to be selective in choosing the same service providers like what the Carrier offers.
