CDMA Curve: Blackberry 8330 Review

This time RIM comes up with its Curve series running on CDMA network. Meet Blackberry 8330 CDMA. Blackberry 8330 comes up with the dimension of 106.6 x 61 x 15 mm and 113 grams weigh. The design is similar to other curve series. As other blackberry phone, there is a trackball below the screen. On the left side of the trackball are Call and Menu button, while on the right side are Back and End Call button. Blackberry 8330 uses 2,5 inches screen with 65k colors and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution in landscape view. LED light indicator placed in top of the phone, it will turn to red when there is a call or message. In standby mode, indicator light will turn to green, and it will turn to yellow when the battery is low. On the right side of Blackberry 8330, there are volume and camera button while on the left side are jack audio 3.5mm, charger port as well as USB port, and voice dial button which can be customized. Silent mode button and speaker are place in top side of the phone. On the back, there is 2MP camera with autofocus and self portrait mirror. Very much indeed blackberry is similar to Blackberry 8320, but Blackberry 8330 runs on CDMA network.

Blackberry 8330 uses Blackberry OS 4.5 which also uses in some of Curves series. As usual, it is very easy download Blackberry application (free or paid application) and install it, the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) is quite stable.

Blackberry 8330 is provided with complete message feature. Blackberry 8330 can send SMS, MMS and email (push email) with an attachment. Each Blackberry always sets with Blackberry PIN to communicate using IM (Instant Messaging) with other Blackberry user. Basically, it come with IM such as YM, MSN, AIM and G-Talk.

Email setting on Blackberry 8330 is so easy. Just add email and password account and it will be delivered to your inbox. 10 different account emails can be added and worked at the same time together. Do not forget to activate BIS service before using IM, push email and browser.

Blackberry 8330 runs in CDMA dual band (800/1900 MHz) and EVDO connectivity, it is faster than 3G of GSM Blackberry. When you try surfing using its browser, you can feel it like surfing through a PC as it comes with HTML view. In addition, you can install Opera Mini to improve your surfing experience. YouTube video streaming goes smoothly and no buffer (depends on network reception and EVDO signal you get). Blackberry 8330 also equips with Bluetooth 2.0 to receive data but unfortunately there is no WiFi. To improve its performance, Blackberry 8330 uses 312 MHz, 32 MB RAM and 96 MB ROM. In addition, you can add external memory using microSD, up to 4GB.

Besides business application, Blackberry 8330 is also provided with multimedia feature such as 2 MP camera, photo gallery, music playback and video playback. The battery is using Li-Ion 1150mAh. Blackberry claims that it can last for 4 hours 30 minutes in talk time and 264 hours in standby mode.

Overall, nothing is special compared to other Curve series. But if you want a new experience and better network, of course it still depends on CDMA network reception in your area, Blackberry 8330 worth to use. Or you may use Blackberry as an alternative when GSM network did run well in your area.
